Episode 1 is up

Hi everyone. The first episode of Push My Follow is up and ready. It took a little longer than normal to edit it, I had some audio issues to deal with, but be sure that all episodes after this one will get better.

We’re very excited about this show. We’re all very passionate about social media and where it’s going. Hopefully you’ll all enjoy listening to it as much as we did making it.

Topics are:

Introductions
Domain squatters
Twitter
Friendfeed and Socialthing
Wordpress 2.5
Oddfollow
Last.fm

  1. and ps. about last.fm, it also has radio stations. which determines your listening styles from what has been logged in your list. also, if you use an ipod, you already can have your “recently played” items from the ipod added to your last.fm feed. (there were some bugs in the ipod syncing feature.. but i think those were fixed in the latest update)

  2. Two things:
    1) This was a really interesting and fun podcast. This really felt like I was setting at the table with you.

    2) How do I get to participate?! Let me know.

  4. Hey guys…

Loved the show, very interesting topics!

As for the domain squatting – Nissan has sued a gentleman whose last name is Nissan and who registered the domain nissan.com in 1994. I believe he is still in a legal battle with Nissan, though he has managed to keep the nissan.com domain in his own name for his business. His name is not japanese, it’s Israeli no less – so there is obviously no intent of squatting on the domain – he just happened to have it first for his own business.

This is why Nissan’s USA website is nissanusa.com

Just an interesting story and addendum to the domain squatting stuff.

  5. Hey guys, great show. Christine, always like your ideas and tweets. (you make me nostalgic for PA sometimes) Still working on getting to know the rest of you. I’d be interested in participating in a discussion sometime. I was listening in the car thinking to myself all of the things I would have added if I were on the call. Very motivating and thought provoking topic! Looking forward to the next one.

    – some thoughts to add: @OddFollow – love it, I try to share it w/others whenever I can

    – would like to add to discussion about twitter and my experience w/calling people out publicly and them responding w/good customer service, i.e. Twitter: The Public Complaints Department; I’ve now had 2 experiences with it, wonder your thoughts on it

    – about domain registration, I picked dot com primarily because of the clientèle I service; they are mostly all over 65 and barely know the difference between an email address and a web URL and my thinking was dot com would be so much easier for them to recognize, plus even though I’m not technically selling anything with my site, I may want to in the future, so I thought dot com would serve me better later on; but Christine, your explanation of net vs com made lots of sense

    – “handle envy” love it, there is a LOT to be said for picking the right handle, IMHO. My only battle with mine is the “THE” part, it gets dropped once in a while which I can totally understand but there are specific reasons why I chose to use it. Luckily there is tweetscan.

    – there were a bunch of other things I could add and go on and on but my brain can only stay focused for so long. I’m lucky I even stayed focused long enough to enter what I have here! (another reason why twitter works so well for me)

ok, peace out! keep em comin!

  6. Great first show, gang! I could comment about so much of what you said, but that would turn into a complete episode in itself.

As for the last.fm issue. I find that it is completely INaccurate to show my listening habits. Because I’m an audio producer, so much of what I produce gets filtered into this when I forget to turn off “scrobbling”. So my last.fm account shows me listening to my own music, my voiceover work, the podcasts I listen to, and… this is the funniest… all of the stuff my 15 year old daughter buys on iTunes and listens to when she’s converting for her non-iPod player.

I got rick-rolled, too. So I fought back with some Rich-rolling of my own! 😀

    Robert, who? mwahahahaha

    Thanks for the show, everybody.

  7. Thanks for sending me the link! I found the conversation interesting and the sound recording pretty good too! Just in case you are not aware of it, Levelator is a great tool to normalize different inputs.

I would prefer a shorter episode though. You could easily make this into 3-4 standalone shows, For me, to see a time stamp of one hour+, really caused a drag on my energy. I usually don’t have that much time at one time to listen to a single podcast.

  8. Wow, fantastic blog stterrucu! How lengthy have you ever been running a blog for? you made running a blog glance easy. The overall glance of your site is excellent, as neatly as the content!

  9. Don’t forget that many people see paying for an eBook that has DRM as a rental rather than a purchase. If I can’t use all the books I bought from Amazon on my iPad then I don’t really own them, now do I. perhaps if they dropped the DRM people would feel there was more value in the digital product. I know I would.

  10. fantastic issues altogether, you simply gained a new reader.
What may you suggest in regards to your put up that you simply made some days in the past?
    Any certain?

  11. Hey this is somewhat of off topic but I was wanting to know if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or
if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding skills
so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly
    appreciated!
